Vacation Bible School 2017

What a GREAT week for all of the children and staff of VBS! Our kids learned that God made you, God is for you, God is always with you, God will always love you and God made you for a reason.

We had 83 kids attend this year!

First Presbyterian and St. Peter’s Episcopal Churches worked together in a shared experience to show God’s love in actions, stories, word and songs. It was an amazing week that touched us all!

So many thank yous are needed!

Our youth led us in energizers, as well as shepherding children to their classes and helping in rotations. Thanks to Kyler Friebele, Ashley Egger, Jordan Patteson, Karlee Friebele, Karley Egger, Madison Myers, Kaidanse Pump, and Kelsie Kilough.

Teachers and other adults led the kids through our week of God’sPower: Charlie Schuler, Connie Schuler, Theresa Smith, Vanessa Friebele, Christy Friedel, Meredith Carter, BeckyWarren, Charlene Williams, Melisssa Myers, Tom Jaggard and LeeAnne Manahan.

Theresa & Connie helped the children make a beautiful quilt. Take a look at ALL the special quilts whenever you are in the Youth Center. Every year they help the children make crafts that remind them of God’s love.

Our special storyteller for the week was our own master-storyteller, Charlie. He also took care of our technical needs during Assembly & Closing times, and as always kept the smiles and laughter flowing.

Recreation was a great time with Melissa Myers and Kyler Friebele. Their energy and team building skills are amazing!

In Discovery with Meredith Carter and Tom Jaggard the kids learned that God helps us make choices and our world is an amazing place.

Music was amazing! The kids learned memorable songs and lessons with Christy Friedel. Each family was given a CD with the songs from the week. It is a special way to keep God in their lives.

Veronika Camehl is our resident photographer, who also led the snack crew of Karen Peterson, Ann Knox Smith and Caro Jackson with many of you bringing healthy and sweet treats to give our kids energy and laughter for a break! Thanks for all of your donations of cookies and money for our fruit! Katie Henderson continues to give ice cream sandwiches for the kids each year since leaving our ranks!

Our Maker Fun Factory decorating decorations were designed and assembled by Jad & Theresa Smith. Every year they make us feel as though we are part of a different world.

Other key volunteers helping with registration and wherever they were needed: Kay Patteson, Ann Knox Smith and Caro Jackson.

Beverly Jacobson, John Watters and Carolina Hernandez helped all week to keep us running smoothly!

Delicious lunches were provided for the staff. This gives us a chanceto celebrate, discuss concerns and prep for the next day. This was organized by Holly Hamilton with food provided by Pam Roe, Janet Gaskamp, Brink and Patti Brinkerhoff and Peggy Thompson.

Our reliable team of ID button makers, Connie Schuler and Theresa Smith, were in place in the registration line. This year they made buttons in advance for pre-registered children. It made a BIG difference as the line moved quickly at their table.

Every year, we take care of others! Locally, we collected snacks for our overseas protectors, which will be distributed by Coastal Bend Troop Support. The kids made cards for those serving overseas and for our veterans in Rockport.

Through Heifer International, our kids and churches raised $1,500 for beehives. The money will purchase 51 beehives, which will help others sell honey to raise money and improve crops in surrounding villages. Beekeeper, Justin Hodge and his son, Coble, showed us beekeeper clothing, hives and honey from his bees! He donated a hive and honey, with all proceeds going to our mission.

It was a special year and we look forward to next year!
